Before we get to the winner, I would like to thank the Academy and Ernst & Young for tabulating the results of tonight’s winners. It’s a very difficult job pushing one button and having a plethora of reports spit out of the SmithFamilyPickem Pickemulator. Since one Grayson Webster moved off and became a hotshot software engineer, he has no time for this puny little site anymore and leaves all the technical details to others.
Unfortunately, tonight’s winner comes with a bit of bad news: Bama lost. That was the only way that the winner would win. She was the only one who picked the stinky bulldawgs. The only one. She has also tested positive for Covid at school yesterday before the game (and is so far asymptomatic). So two bad newses.
The Youngs of Utah watched the game in 3 different rooms. I switched from the theater to the living room at the 4th quarter thinking that would change Bama’s luck. It certainly did but not in the proper direction. From now on, the theater is where all football-watching shall be done.
So, your unlucky winner is: livyloo. She beats ACME Corp. by virtue of the tiebreaker – which she almost picked exactly right.

A couple of notes on the results list:
- I didn’t finish near the bottom. I was in the top 3rd. Like a team that shall not be mentioned, I’ll count that as a win and say “Y’all just wait til next year!”
- Jaime was near the top the whole time. The fact that she couldn’t come up with a better nickname is disappointing.
- ScoobaTech was in his usual place near the top. One might think he knows something about football.
- TurtleRunner and Yummy Rat Poison disappointed their legion of fans by stinking up the joint.
- Katherine the Great may have had her best year in a 10th place finish. We can’t recall all the years but at least in our minds that is a good finish for her!
- Tolstoy spent too much time on writing his book and not enough on evaluating teams this year. Unless, like his namesake, he starts an unfinished sequel, we’ll look for him to return to the top echelons.
- Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc. didn’t finish last – by virtue of winning the last place tiebreaker over Raf Rat.
- Given everybody got at least 58% of the picks correct, I’ll say this was a pretty good pick’em year overall. Best of luck in 2022!
